Very few rising stars command more respect than this hard-hitting prospect. Yukeno Andino is more than a prospect; he’s a star in the making. This Puerto Rican-born star is making a name for himself as a professional fighter, the same way he made a name as an amateur fighter.

Andino started his amateur career in Puerto Rico, amassing an impressive record of 29-1, 7 KOs. After he swept through his competition in his homeland, he decided he wanted to face some of today’s best amateurs in California. So Andino decided to go west and look for gold.

It didn’t take long for Andino to reach gold. Shortly after moving to California in 2001, Andino made his first appearance in a California tournament in the 2002 Reyes Regional Championship. Andino made his mark in winning gold and made a name for himself out west. He then went along to win gold in the 2003 Western Trail Championship and win the ever-so-coveted 2003 California Golden Gloves Championship.

Once Andino had made a name for himself in Puerto Rico and California, it was time to make a name on a national stage. Andino was invited to the 2004 Olympic trials for a chance to represent his country in the 2004 Olympics in Greece. Andino breezed through his bracket and reached the semi-finals. He then faced Andre Ward, his toughest test to date. Unfortunately, he lost by points to this future Olympic gold medalist.

After a trip back home to Puerto Rico, Andino knew it was time to turn pro. He had amassed an amateur record of 58-7, 12 KOs. Since turning pro in 2005, Andino has not looked back, looking impressive in all his bouts while turning in a professional record of 9-0, 3 KOs. Look for Andino to keep the rich history of great Puerto Rican fighters intact.
