There always seems to be a second coming in boxing: no different in Mexican welterweight Julio "Baby Face" Garcia. Garcia follows a great line of Mexican fighters. The eighteen-year-old Garcia is nicknamed "Baby Face" and is one of boxing’s newest rising young superstars. Now don’t be fooled by his alias; there is absolutely nothing "Baby" about Garcia. Maybe that’s because he just matured his record to 37-2, 30 KOs.
Garcia turned pro three days after turning 15 and has not looked back since making his pro debut against Hector Salazar. Garcia has won the World Boxing Council (WBC) Fecarbox Super Featherweight title, the Mexican Super Featherweight title, World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental Light Welterweight title, and the World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth Light Welterweight title.
This youth is the one responsible for damaging Jose Luis Castillo’s ribs before his rematch against Diego Corrales. Garcia is the WBC #8 contender. While Garcia has had only three bouts in the States, this is a name we should all file away. Soon we will all be speaking it often.
